Farmer impact

From Smallholder Farms to Better Food

Every product starts in the field. Through COPMAS, our Commodity Production and Marketing System, Sayari Foods works with more than 10,000 contracted smallholder women and youth farmers to plan production, aggregate harvests and connect them to a reliable buyer.

The model coordinates collective production, input sourcing and financing, mechanisation and instant payment, so quality and quantity can be planned rather than hoped for.

Our story

Sixteen Years of Moving Up the Value Chain

Smart Logistics Solution was established in 2009 by Rose Mutuku, initially focusing on sorghum aggregation and marketing before expanding into food staples, pulses, oilseeds and value-added food products.

From regional commodity trade the company moved into export, then into processing, innovating technologies that deliver tasty products with enhanced nutritional value. Today it targets low-income consumers and institutional markets: women food hawkers, small food kiosks, retail outlets, minimarts, schools and factories.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sayari Foods is the food-processing brand of Smart Logistics Solution Ltd, producing convenient and nutritious food products using micronutrient-rich ingredients including beans.

Five products are currently in the range: Beansy precooked and dehydrated beans, Supa Noodles protein-enriched instant noodles, Frejols precooked bean flour, Nutriplus composite porridge flour and Dodo Soup instant soup. Dehydrated vegetables and Keroma, a bean-enhanced multigrain snack, are in development.

The company is based on Machakos-Kitui Road, 3 km off Mombasa Road in Kenya, and sources from contracted farmers in Machakos, Makueni, Kajiado, Nakuru, Taita-Taveta and Meru. It trades regionally and exports pulses, with a vision focused on East Africa.

The company targets low-income consumers and institutional markets, mainly women food hawkers, small food kiosks, retail outlets, minimarts, schools and factories. Bean-based products are distributed to schools and factory workers mainly in Machakos and Nairobi counties, alongside distributors and export markets.

Through COPMAS, the Commodity Production and Marketing System, working with over 10,000 contracted smallholder women and youth farmers in Machakos, Makueni, Kajiado, Nakuru, Taita-Taveta and Meru, chosen to ensure quality and traceability of products. The company also partners with research institutes such as KALRO and CIAT, government stakeholders and various input and service providers.

The precooked bean plant processes 3,000 kg per day, against demand of over 5,000 MT per month. The flour unit mills 2 tonnes of beans per day, and the noodle line processes 20,000 packs of bean-enhanced noodles per day. An automated porridge-flour line rated at 4 tonnes per day is being procured.

Rose Mutuku, a woman entrepreneur, established the company in 2009 with a dream of creating structured and sustainable markets by supporting smallholder food production systems and creating wealth in the communities within. She remains Founder and CEO.
